What is the difference between "claims made" and "occurrence" form?

Claims Made: There must be a policy in force at the time of the claim that would provide prior acts to a date that would pick up that claim, in addition there can not have been a gap in coverage.
Occurrence: If there was a policy in force at the time of the incident, that policy will afford coverage for that loss "forever".
